With this series, I wanted to explore the juxtaposition between wild and elegant. Wild orchids became my subject and I loosely and organically rendered them in oil, adding slight references to the way they grow naturally on trees. This collection will be part of the Liza Pruitt Mother's Day Group Show — available on April 13 at noon. (Twelve works on paper, all unframed.)

I've long had a fascination with things that are weathered, that have earned their beautiful patina from surviving storms and the effects of time. Such things have history, stories to tell — as evident by their rust, splintered wood, visible signs of age. What have they seen over the years? I wonder. My collection of BARNS explores these broken-down physical structures that have lost relevance but still have much to say. The song "Angel From Montgomery" by John Prine stayed in my mind each time I painted these works, so I referenced the lyrics for the titles. Available through ArtSource Fine Art.
